NUOVO Lab & Gallery荣幸地宣布将于10月15日下午三点,在王府井空间推出艺术家王昶的个展“天机图”。 本次展览是艺术家王昶的全新个展,呈现了艺术家近年来多件新作以及他对于东方性在当代艺术语境下的独特思考。
绘画的力量是持续地介入视觉中的能力和重量,这种介入不仅仅讲述了人类所有已知的历史和现实,它更依靠图像,依靠对视觉的探寻以及由此产生的对于人类心灵和智慧的统摄。同样,我们可以称呼今天所有的画家为图像艺术家,他们的工作正是植根于视觉图像,在多重学科的边界线上,重构图示语言的理念、性质及其可被分析的象征史,并最终呈现经验与超验世界的复合含义。

因此《天机图》是对于王昶作品的一种阐释,如展览作品《博局图》,博局意为棋盘,而棋盘同时也是一切规律、人性、意志的集合,在棋局中管中窥豹亦可洞察天机。《南宫纬》则来源于天帝的宫殿太微,太微垣又被称为南宫,而纬这个字有着多重含义,同星象相关的一重是经纬中的纬,意思是南北分度线,另一重则可以指代五颗行星。

《星象·璇玑》与《星象·玉衡》,璇玑与玉衡最初都是古代观测天象的仪器,之后璇玑成为了北斗七星中,前四星天枢、天璇、天玑、天权四星的统称,而玉衡则是四星之后的第五颗星。所有星象的总和便是天机,对星象的整体描绘便是天机图,更为关键的含义在于,天机图不仅是对于天象的图像学描绘,它更是对于宇宙观念的衍生。

先秦诸子中的尸佼说“四方上下曰宇,往古来今曰宙。”关于时间性的现在、过去和将来,以及空间性的四面八方上下,都被包含在王昶艺术表述的宏观架构之中,这种表述是传统的,也是当代的,是东方的,也是世界的,是宏大的,也是微观的。
这一切都来源于艺术家王昶,一直沉默且坚定地寻找一条与众不同的艺术道路,他的风格、构图、色彩、线条、技法,以及他对于个人绘画语言精准的统摄,既无师长也无友人,这有时让我们想起莫兰迪,这位在西方艺术史中的异类,在他之前无人与他相仿,在他之后亦无人同他类似,他是艺术星河中的孤案,也是群山之巅的独松。如同夜空中那一颗孑然的星,恒定地散发出自己执着的光芒。王昶就是这样的艺术家,他如此的自我、独特、与众不同,“前不见古人,后不见来者”,但任何人都不必为此怆然涕下,因为我们都是艺术的见证者。

This exhibition is the new solo exhibition of the artist Wang Chang, presenting a number of new works of the artist in recent years and his unique thoughts on the Oriental nature in the context of contemporary art.
The power of painting is the ability and weight of continuous intervention in vision, which not only tells all the known history and reality of mankind, but also relies on images, the exploration of vision and the resulting control of human mind and wisdom. In the same way, we can call all painters today graphic artists, whose work is rooted in the visual image, reconstructing the idea, nature and symbolic history of pictorial language that can be analyzed on the boundaries of multiple disciplines, and ultimately presenting the composite meaning of experience and the transcendental world.
In Wang Chang's creation, we can fully identify the power of this painting, in his grand cosmological framework, the meaning of experience and transcendental experience are fully and clearly expressed by the artist with his unique language. The title of the exhibition is an interpretation of the cosmological view of Wang Chang's works, which is both astronomical and metaphysical numerology, natural spirit and secret providence.
Therefore, "Heavenly Chance Map" is an interpretation of Wang Chang's works, such as the exhibition work "Bo Bureau Map", Bo bureau means a chessboard, and the chessboard is also the collection of all laws, humanity, will, in the chess game can also be insight into the heavenly chance. "Nangong Wei" comes from the Heavenly emperor's palace is too small, too small wall is also called the Nangong, and the word latitude has multiple meanings, with the star related one is the latitude in the longitude, meaning the north-south dividing line, and the other can refer to the five planets.
"Stars · Xuanji" and "Stars · Yuheng", Xuanji and Yuheng were originally instruments for observing the sky in ancient times, and then Xuanji became a collective name for the four stars of Tianshu, Tianxuan, Tianji and Tianquan in the first four stars of the Big Dipper, and Yuheng was the fifth star after the four stars. The sum of all the stars is the celestial machine, the overall description of the stars is the celestial machine map, and the more crucial meaning is that the celestial machine map is not only the pictorial description of the celestial objects, but also the derivation of the concept of the universe.
The corpse in the pre-Qin dynasty said, "The four sides up and down said Yu, to the ancient and today said." The present, past and future of time, as well as the four directions of space, are all included in the macro structure of Wang Chang's artistic expression, which is traditional, contemporary, Oriental, and global, grand and micro.
All this comes from the artist Wang Chang, who has been quietly and firmly looking for a different artistic path. His style, composition, color, lines, techniques, as well as his precise control of his personal painting language, without teachers or friends, sometimes reminds us of Morandi, an outlier in Western art history, who is no one like him before him. After him, there is no one like him, he is a lone case in the star of art, but also a lone pine on the top of the mountains. Like a lone star in the night sky, it constantly emits its own persistent light. Wang Chang is such an artist, he is so self-unique, different, "not before the ancients, not after the comers", but no one need to weep for this, because we are all witnesses of art.
